Forster Tuncurry Physiotherapy & Allied Health provides a comprehensive women’s health physiotherapy service for women who are suffering from pelvic pain or dysfunction, as well as a broad range of related general health conditions.

We have a women’s health physiotherapist who will give you caring, confidential and high-quality management in all areas of women’s continence, pregnancy and pelvic floor disorders.

Kaitlin holds qualifications in women’s health (Women’s Health through the Life Stages - lvl 1A, Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy - lvl 1A and Mandy Roscher’s course Women’s Pelvic Health: Foundations and Fundamentals) and pleased to be able to be able to offer women’s health services to the women of the Forster Tuncurry region.

What causes damage to women’s pelvic floor muscles?

While the biggest predictor of pelvic floor weakness in women is multiple vaginal deliveries, your pelvic floor can also be damaged by:

  • chronic constipation and straining

  • constant coughing

  • lower levels of oestrogen after menopause

  • pelvic floor muscle tension caused by painful period

  • supporting the weight of the uterus during pregnancy

  • surgery that requires cutting the pelvic floor muscle

  • weight gain and obesity

What conditions do we treat with our women’s health physiotherapy services?

Our women’s health physiotherapist will give you caring, confidential and high quality management in all areas of women’s continence, pregnancy and pelvic floor disorders.

We can help you to manage a wide range of women’s health conditions and symptoms, including:

  • Antenatal conditions – pelvic girdle and low back pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Bowel dysfunction – problems with constipation or control of wind or faeces

  • Prolapse of pelvic organs – including bladder, bowel or uterus

  • Pain in your pelvic, abdominal or vulva region

  • Pain with sexual intercourse

  • Pre- and Post surgery – hysterectomy, anterior/posterior wall repair, caesarean delivery

  • Postnatal conditions – pelvic floor weakness, neck, back or perineal pain, 6 week check-up

  • Pelvic floor and abdominal muscle weakness – Including poor awareness of how to exercise these muscles correctly or effectively.

  • Stress Incontinence – leakage of urine when you run, laugh, cough or sneeze

  • Urge incontinence – leakage when you have a strong and sudden urge to go to the toilet but don’t make it in time
